DIY: Snow Globes

With the upcoming long weekend, I'll be headed home to see family & friends I haven't seen for a while. I needed to come armed with gifts, and scoured the Internet for ideas. Home made presents are always extra thoughtful, and usually more fun for the gift receiver as well as the gift giver, not to mention great when you're on a budget. I stumbled across this DIY from Martha Stewart, and knew immediately I could make a fun, personalized version for my friends. Instead of Christmas trees, I used fun plastic dinosaurs & animals. Everything used here was purchased at Dollarama, and it was super easy! I highly recommend trying this yourself for a super fun & unique gift for a loved one. This is a great project for kids as well!

Colour & the City

It has been hot hot hot these past few days, and humidity is not a girl's friend. All this sunshine is making me want to wear bright colours, and drink delicious cocktails! Thankfully the humidity is down a bit, so I threw on my brightest summer dress, a crisp white blazer, and some hot Manolos I grabbed at a bargain price on eBay, for some well deserved patio drinks. I'm super excited to head home to visit my family this up coming long weekend, what do you have planed for the holiday?

Clover Canyon

Yes, I am obsessed with prints, so it's no surprise that when I spotted California brand Clover Canyon, it was love at first sight.  Designed and produced in Los Angeles, each Clover Canyon collection reflects the eclectic, joyful spirit of California through vivid prints and streamlined silhouettes.  So not only are their bold patterns absolutely stunning, but the clothes are easygoing & completely wearable. Celebrities and taste-makers flock to the brand, such as Zoe Saldana, Solange Knowles, Olivia Wilde, & the Kardashians. As well, they design and make everything in house, which is a rare find these days. Check out some of their dreamy designs below, and then see the rest here.

Style Crush: Carrie Bradshaw's Best Moments

Lately, I have been really missing Sex and the City, and have been re-watching all the old episodes on DVD. The show captured the hearts of women everywhere, but no one more so than Carrie Bradshaw. Who didn't want to pick up and move to a rent-controlled NYC apartment, brunch with their best girlfriends and their gay BFF, and stroll around in vintage furs and sky high Manolos? Carrie became a huge fashion icon, and for good reason. Below are 13 of my favorite Carrie looks from the show & movies, but really, Carrie can almost do no wrong.

In season one, Carrie spent most of her time in an amazing vintage raccoon fur.  This picture of the girls at Yankees stadium may be my favorite picture of them ever, even at a baseball game they bring on the glamor.  I think if Carrie had one motto, it would be "Always Be Glamorous".

Glitter Makes the World Go Round

Everyone has those items in their closet that make them super happy. It might be a great pair of expensive shoes, a pretty necklace, or a funny t-shirt.  For me, one of those pieces would have to be these super fun glitter booties I picked up at H&M last year. They always put a big smile on my face! I also love the way they look with my Sabine dress from Aritzia. This dress is one of the most versatile pieces I own, I've worn it to everything from brunch with my girls, to interviews, to summer weddings. Honestly, I might have to buy it in another colour!

What in your closet makes you super happy?

Three Floor Fashion

Jeans and a T-shirt are great for everyday wear, but sometimes you just want to put on a dress and be fabulous. Enter, London brand Three Floor Fashion. Adored by celebrities like Amanda Seyfried, Emma Roberts, & Anna Faris, their ultra feminine and ultra cool cocktail dresses are sure to grab everyone's attention wherever you choose to wear yours. I love the lace accents, bright colours, and edgy details. A little bit girly, and a little bit rock n roll, just how I like it. They also make great jackets, tops, & skirts, and have a collaboration coming up with London jewelry label Moxham, maker of awesome oversized metal statement pieces. Check out some of my favourite looks below, and then check out the whole collection here.

Never Break the Chain

Toronto is a huge, multicultural city, and one of my favorite features are the cool, graffiti walls. This one in particular of several George W's, (at least I think it's him) standing in a row, pledging allegiance, is one of my favorites in today's political climate.  Another one of my favorite things right now is this wicked leg chain from Litter SF. I spotted this brand & their amazing body jewelry on Shark Tank a while back, and I knew immediately I had to have a leg garter chain. It adds instant cool to any outfit.

What do you think, would you wear a leg chain?

It's All in the Details

Today was errand day, so the bf and I geared up for getting around the city. I love how simple, casual looks can be jazzed up by small details. This top by Scotch & Soda is a perfect example. At first glance, it's just your typical safari shirt, but at a closer look, you can see the beautiful beading & embroidery on the shoulders. Just adds a little something unique to a classic basic. I thought this floral filigree knuckle ring from Forever 21 complemented it well, and because we had a lot of walking ahead of us, comfy shoes were a must. Enter, these leather loafers by The Original Car Shoe. They're an Italian company owned by Prada, and these are seriously the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

Now it's time to make a nice cup of tea and relax, how are you enjoying this beautiful day?

First Look: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

As previously discussed, 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target will be hitting stores and online September 15th, and we're finally starting to get a look at the collection. Pictures (and some pricing info) have slowly been hitting the internets, and so far I am loving what I am seeing! It seems very true to the Phillip Lim brand, but at an affordable price, which is exactly what you want in these collaborations.  There even seems to be a bag identical to their extremely popular Pashli bag. So far I want almost every item I've seen, I especially love the dresses.  The full lookbook is supposed to drop this week, I can't wait to see the rest of the collection!

Appetite for Destruction

It's been a fairly quiet week around here since getting back from Peterborough.  I've been spinning Guns N Roses' Appetite for Destruction on vinyl a lot lately, hoping that the next big rock n roll band will emerge sometime soon, and so naturally I had to break out the GnR shirt.  I never really feel more "me" than when I'm wearing a comfy vintage band tee.  But comfy doesn't have to mean dowdy, and so I paired it with my red H&M blazer to match the red in the shirt, and then tied it all together with these leopard flats with red trim. But this is still, after all, a rock n roll shirt, so what better accessory than some serious spikes? I like to think this look says classy & fun, but don't fuck with me haha. What do you think, would you rock a vintage band shirt?

Outfit: GnR Shirt - Vintage; Blazer - H&M; Jeans - Rag & Bone; Flats - Maria Bonita Extra; Bird Ring, Necklace, & Spike Bracelet - Forever 21; Bow Ring - Brandy Melville; Fangs Ring - Früg; Sunglasses - Ray-Ban; Bag - Miu Miu; Watch - Vintage

Aloha From Deer

If you're a fan of digital prints and comfy sweaters, look no further. I recently discovered Polish brand Aloha From Deer online, and I am completely obsessed with their urban cool designs. They incorporate all sorts of unique wallpaper style graphics such as famous works of art, animals, nature, interesting historical photographs, and all sorts of random silliness, and put them on everything including sweaters, shirts, leggings, and even swimsuits. Everything is available online through their online store here. Their stuff is so cool and different, honestly the hardest part is narrowing down which ones I want most! What do you think, would you rock a statement piece from Aloha From Deer?

Flower Power

Not a lot to report today, the bf and I went up to his hometown of Peterborough this long weekend for a family wedding. The ceremony was held at the bride's family's farm, and everything was just stunning. Nothing like a barn wedding to get your rustic chic on. Because of the outdoorsy-ness, I decided to forgo heels and wear basic comfy flats with this bright floral dress from H&M. I am absolutely in love with this dress, the bright colours just draw you in. A simple knuckle clutch completed the look and allowed me to dance the night away. So much fun!

How did you spend your long weekend?

Style Crush: Kate Hudson at Clear History Premiere

A denim dress is not something that would typically interest or excite me on most occasions, but then Kate Hudson had to go and change my mind. Kate showed up looked ah-mazing to the Clear History premiere in LA this week, in an embellished denim Balmain mini dress. Honestly, everything about that sounds so wrong, but this dress is so right! It's so fun and flirty, and I want to own it immediately. She looks flawless from head to toe, kudos Kate!

H&M Officially Launches Online Shopping in USA

Exciting news for our neighbors south of the border! After several delays, H&M has finally launched online shopping in the US. This is great news for Canadians, as it may take a while yet, but this is a good sign that online shopping will be available in Canada soon. In the meantime, I'll have to browse longingly on the US site and hope to find my favorite pieces in store.
